ReflectUS, the national, nonpartisan coalition of the country’s leading women’s representation organizations, is pleased to announce a new resource available to Dallas County women seeking political office.

In an effort to help women begin their political leadership journey, ReflectUS has created a Boards and Commissions Guide for each city located within Dallas County. This Guide includes various information such as: which Boards and Commissions have vacancies, appointment eligibility, application process, appointment timeline, addresses, point of contact information, and links to apply directly.

“We are excited that women in the Dallas County area now have this important resource. We chose Dallas County as our first site given the stark disparity between men and women political leaders. Currently, five of the 31 cities in Dallas County have zero women on their city councils, and 11 cities only have one woman – meaning that half of all the cities within Dallas County have lower than the national average of 24% women in elected office. We hope our work here, including this Boards and Commissions Guide, helps to change that,” said Tiffany Gardner, ReflectUS CEO.

ReflectUS has hosted various webinars, education sessions, and events to help women realize their full potential when seeking political involvement and leadership roles.

“Through participation feedback, we quickly realized that the first point of interest for many women in Dallas County is serving on a City Board or Commission. Yet, many shared that the guidelines and steps towards applying weren’t clear or easily accessible. Hence, we developed this Guide hoping it would encourage and assist women in their quest of holding public office,” commented Cecilia Silva, ReflectUS Dallas Program Manager.

One of ReflectUS’ goals in Dallas County is to promote understanding, awareness, and access to information. This Guide is the first step toward achieving this goal and helping to increase the number of women in leadership positions around the county. Information is located at: reflect.us/resources.
