Dallas, February 5, 2009 – Homeward Bound in Dallas changes lives for clients struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Thanks to multiple donors, women at the Center will now enjoy a warm, welcoming and more comfortable environment while undergoing intensive treatment for their addictions.
The Center recently announced the completion of the renovation of its women’s unit renovation, made possible by donations of goods and services from multiple organizations and a grant from The Boone Family Foundation. This renovation involved a month-long effort by volunteers and staff to improve the therapeutic environment with the installation of new furniture and flooring, fresh paint and other improvements.
“The renovation is quite simply a miracle — a wonderful, beautiful, tangible miracle,” said Renee Breazeale, Program Director, Homeward Bound. “When we walk off the elevator now it feels like a welcoming home, so warm and comforting.” She added that the newly-renovated women’s unit “is a place of light and hope, a place of healing and compassion, a place of respect and honor, a place of safety and concern and a place where all women can feel nurtured, special, and cherished. The renovation is a transformative event that will impact many women’s lives to come.”
Garrett Boone of the The Boone Family Foundation praised the collaboration of businesses and volunteers that made the renovation a success.
“We are thrilled by the response from the businesses who contributed to make this renovation even more spectacular,” said Mr. Boone. “The depth of the coordination involving many people was inspiring to me all the while maintaining a consistent focus to keep the women comfortable.”
Among the improvements:
*Sherwin-Williams and 400 volunteers from the Volunteer Center of North Texas painted the interiors, brightening the unit with fresh pastel colors.
* Specified Floor Designs installed an ivory vinyl tile floor to replace the dark carpeting.
* The rooms were updated with new mattresses donated from Sleep Experts Rest Assured Foundation and beautiful bed linens donated by Peacock Alley.
* The Container Store donated Elfa drawer units.
* New blinds from Kensington Window Expressions, along with new chairs, blankets, pillows and shower caddies accessorized the newly-renovated rooms.
